Ennore Port to build one more coal berth at Rs 270 cr
By deciding to construct an additional coal berth at a cost of Rs 270 crore, the Ennore Port (EPL) has decided to take on the competition from the Krishnapatnam and Karaikal ports on the eastern coast of India. To handle about 12 million tonne per annum (mtpa) EPL has two coal berths.
Ennore port to run as a corporate firm
As the Ennore port is being run as a company by the government, management of the port will not follow federal shipping ministry guidelines to set rates for cargo services. Cargo traffic up at three ports in south

In handling cargo, during the first half of this financial year, Ennore Port has achieved the fastest growth rate among all major ports with a 59 per cent increase.
Ennore Port to double its car storage capacity
To cater to the growing demand for car exports from Tamil Nadu, the Ennore Port is planning to double its car storage capacity from the existing 10,000 units in a year. The additional space at the port would be ready by the middle of 2014-15, the port Director-Operations Sanjay Kumar has said.
Ennore Port presents Rs 40 cr dividend to govt
The Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan was presented with a dividend cheque of Rs 40 crore by the Ennore Port (EPL) for the financial year 2012-13. The Chairman and Managing Director of the EPL MA Bhaskarachar presented the cheque to the Minister at a function in Chennai on September 17.

The Chennai Port Trust is to convert the Jawahar Dock (East) berth into a small container terminal to handle around 800,000 TEUs a year. The berth was used to handle coal till a few years back, but has been lying unused after coal handling was shifted to Ennore port
