Ennore Port to build one more coal berth at Rs 270 cr
By deciding to construct an additional coal berth at a cost of Rs 270 crore, the Ennore Port (EPL) has decided to take on the competition from the Krishnapatnam and Karaikal ports on the eastern coast of India. To handle about 12 million tonne per annum (mtpa) EPL has two coal berths.
Ennore port to run as a corporate firm
As the Ennore port is being run as a company by the government, management of the port will not follow federal shipping ministry guidelines to set rates for cargo services. Last week, the port management informed prospective bidders for a container-loading facility that it will not follow federal shipping ministry guidelines to set rates for cargo services.
Cargo traffic up at three ports in south
Except Chennai Port Trust (ChPT), other ports in the vicinity-Ennore Port, Krishnapatnam Port and Karaikal Port – have handled cargo well for the 1st half of the present year, say media reports. During the period under review (April to September 2013), Ennore Port (EPL) registered 59 per cent boost in total cargo at 12.68 million tonne (mt) against 8 mt for the corresponding period.
Ennore Port to build coal berth for TANGEDCO
A coal loading facility will be set up at Rs 250 crore by Ennore Port, being run by the Union government in Tamil Nadu. It is the third facility for the State-owned power utility Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation to tap rising demand for coal used for generating electricity.
Ennore Port registers 59% rise in cargo
In handling cargo, during the first half of this financial year, Ennore Port has achieved the fastest growth rate among all major ports with a 59 per cent increase.
Ennore Port to double its car storage capacity
To cater to the growing demand for car exports from Tamil Nadu, the Ennore Port is planning to double its car storage capacity from the existing 10,000 units in a year. The additional space at the port would be ready by the middle of 2014-15, the port Director-Operations Sanjay Kumar has said.
Ennore Port presents Rs 40 cr dividend to govt
The Union Minister of Shipping GK Vasan was presented with a dividend cheque of Rs 40 crore by the Ennore Port (EPL) for the financial year 2012-13. The Chairman and Managing Director of the EPL MA Bhaskarachar presented the cheque to the Minister at a function in Chennai on September 17.

The Chennai Port Trust is to convert the Jawahar Dock (East) berth into a small container terminal to handle around 800,000 TEUs a year. The berth was used to handle coal till a few years back, but has been lying unused after coal handling was shifted to Ennore port
