For the quarter ended 30 September, Essar Ports on October 31 reported a 21 per cent more in net profit as it won more business from affiliates. Profit after tax rose to Rs 97.5 crore in the quarter from Rs 80.5 crore in the year-ago period.

Net profit of Essar Ports rose 48 percent to Rs 101.4 crore during April-June 2013 from Rs 68.5 crore in the year-ago period. Essar to set up 3 iron ore berths in Vizag at Rs 1,000-cr
India's second largest private port operator, Essar Ports is looking to secure finances of about Rs 700 crore for developing three iron ore berths at the Visakhapatnam port in the next 6 months. In June, the company had won the bid for mechanisation and operation of three iron ore berths at Visakhapatnam Port, which will have a combined capacity of 23 million tonne per annum (MTPA). The total project cost is estimated to be about Rs 1,000 crore, said Essar Ports' Managing Director Rajiv Agarwal.
Essar Ports to ask clients to pay in dollars
Essar Ports will gradually ask its port users to pay tariff in US dollar instead of rupee. This means, the company would receive tariff in dollars from customers and convert the same into rupees at the prevailing exchange rate.
