30 battery operated electric buses and 18 bus charging stations were approved by the civic transport wing committee. In order to be financed under the Central GovernmentÂ’s Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric (and Hybrid) Vehicles in India (FAME- 1) scheme, Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport had sent a proposal to the Department of Heavy Industry for the project.

The Transport Ministry is analysing the most appropriate ways to implement a policy called FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electrical Vehicles. The Hindu reports that the introduction of hybrid and electrical vehicles in India will have positive spin-offs both for the economy as well as the environment.
