The Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M. Scindia has stated that the power transmission sector was opened up for private sector participation through mandatory competitive bidding with certain exemptions as per Tariff Policy notified by Government of India on January 6 in 2006 and the Gazette notification on July 8 July in 2011.

Profits of major ports decline, Govt to cut manpower
Taking note of reduction in the profits of its 12 major ports in the country, the government of India has taken several steps to reduce costs. As a cost cutting measure, the Centre wants to reduce surplus manpower through the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). The Union Shipping Minister GK Vasan said this in the Lok Sabha recently. Profit of major ports declined by about 30 per cent to Rs 1,220.61 crore in 2012-13 over the previous fiscal, Vasan said in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
Govt divests stake in NTPC
Government of India has divested 9.5 per cent stake of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) through Offer for Sale (OFS) mechanism. After the completion of OFS on February 11, governmentÂ’s equity holding in NTPC has now come down from 84.50 per cent to 75.00 per cent, said the Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M. Scindia in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha recently.

Govt to raise Rs 1,000 cr via tax free bonds for airports
The government of India has decided to set up new airports in small cities and Airport Authority of India is all set to issue tax free bonds in this financial year to raise funds up to Rs 1,000 crore. The funds thus raised will be used for the development of low-cost airports. Maturity period of these bonds is going o be ten years. Those who invest in these bonds will also get tax benefits. Centre commences work on 6 greenfield airports
The Government of India has granted 'in principle' approval for setting up of 15 greenfield airports across the country out of which, physical work at 6 airports namely, Gulbarga, Hassan, Shimoga in Karnataka, Durgapur in West Bengal, Pakyong in Sikkim and Shirdi in Maharashtra, has already commenced, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, KC Venugopal told the Lok Sabha last week. Construction at various airports in the country including Aranmula airport project has not stopped, he added.

ADB’s $252 mn loan for rural roads in five states
The Government of India and Asian Development Bank (ADB) have signed a $252 million loan to continue improving rural roads in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and West Bengal. The ADB's loan represents the first tranche of a $ 800 million financing facility under the Rural Connectivity Investment Programme.

C’garh UT admin seeks 3-tier road link to Mohali airport
A three-tier road connectivity to Chandigarh from the upcoming international airport in Mohali has been demanded by UT administration and the matter has been taken up with the high powered inter-state coordination committee constituted by the Government of India. The administration has rued that none of the access options for Chandigarh being considered for the expanded airport compares with the access currently enjoyed by Chandigarh's residents.
