The state has a long coastline of 720 km, which is almost 10 per cent of India´s coastline. It´s well connected through 18 National Highways and nearly 6,000 km of the railway network.

Centre to float tenders for Colachel port
The Shipping Ministry will issue tenders by March for the appointment of a consultant for the proposed trans-shipment port of Colachel. Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said Colachel in Tamil Nadu, Sagar in West Bengal and Wadhawan at Dahanu in Maharashtra will be the three new greenfield ports

GMB scouts for newer locations
Gujarat, which accounts for 74 per cent of the traffic by all non-major ports and 89 per cent of the total shipbuilding orders in India, is now scouting for newer locations for setting up green-field ports and shipyards.
