In a move that may expedite implementation of highway projects in the country, the union cabinet waived environmental approval for highway projects up to 100 km in length. Karnataka government is reportedly in the process of acquiring land for the proposed six-laning of the Bangalore-Mysore highway, which is currently a four-lane stretch. The state Public works department would place the proposal for the project before the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The existing 4-lane stretch is not sufficient to carry about 70,000 vehicles that ferry through the route daily

Nod to two-laning of Uniara-Gulabpura NH in Rajasthan
For two-laning with paved shoulders (PS) of a key highway in Rajasthan, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval. The project is the two laning of the Uniara-Nainwa-Hindoli-Jahajpur-Shahpura-Gulabpura section of NH-148D in the state under the National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase IV, on engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis. The cost is estimated to be Rs 774.33 crore.

In a communication to the stock exchange, IL&FS Transportation Networks said it signed Concession Agreements with the concerned authorities for the following projects: (i) Kiratpur Ner Chowk section of NH 21 of 90.175 km in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.
