Solar desalination plant
World´s largest solar-powered desalination plant is being planned by the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The proposed plant would process more than 22 million gallons of potable water per day, according to reports. UAE said that the solar-powered new plant at Ras Al Khaimah emirate would also generate 20 MW of electricity.

Solar power in 2014
A report by Mercom Capital Group says that India is projected to see a solar power generation capacity addition of 1,750 MW next year. Noting that new solar installations so far this year have been around 900 MW, Mercom on 20 November stated that India is not likely to register any significant year-over-year growth for 2013. However, during this period, global solar market is estimated to see 20 per cent growth.

Solar power metering
Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has invited suggestions and feedback from stakeholders on a proposal to introduce net metering for rooftop solar power generation as per guidelines laid down by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The commission claims that, with about 300 sunny days in Delhi a year and around 30 lakh households, Delhi has more than 700 sq km of built-up area for installation of photo-voltaic systems.

Centre to pace up expressway projects
The Union government is to fast-track a few expressway projects in the country for the development of industry, said the Union Road Transport & Highways Minister Oscar Fernandes. The Mumbai-Vadodara Expressway, the eastern and western peripheral expressways, and the Delhi-Jaipur expressway will be part of the plan, the Minister added. Addressing the inaugural function of Excon 2013, Fernandes said these expressways will provide enough opportunity for industry to grow along these express ways.
