The Dakshina Kannada district administration has earmarked land to build a hover port to base hovercraft of the Indian Coast Guard at New Mangalore. The Deputy Commissioner of the district has been proactive in facilitating various formalities to hand over the land to the Coast Guard. It is now awaiting the approval from the Ministry of Defence.

Cochin Shipyard commissions fast patrol vessel
Cochin Shipyard-built Aadesh vessel, the first of the series of 20 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard, was commissioned in Kochi last week. Two ships of the class have been delivered to the Coast Guard and the third would also be delivered by the end of the month, the Cochin Shipyard said.
Coast Guard takes foreign vessel into custody
The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has on October 11 taken into custody a Sierra Leone's vessel with a 10-member crew and brought it to Tuticorin port for investigation. Eight among the 10-member crew are Indians. Sierra Leone is a west African country.
