Govt okays scheme to set up 750 mw solar plants

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the implementation of a scheme for setting up of 750 mw of grid-connected solar PV power projects under Batch-1 of Phase-11 (2013-17) of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM) with Viability Gap Funding (VGF) support from the National Clean Energy Fund (NCEF).

Tata Power signed an agreement to acquire 51 percent stake of BP Alternative Energy Holdings, in its solar joint venture, Tata BP Solar. After the purchase, Tata Power will own the entire company. The move comes in the wake of BP's recent decision to exit its solar busi­ness. Tata BP Solar was for­med in 1989 to manufacture pho­­to­voltaic cells and modules.
