In Kerala's Idukki district, the total losses suffered in the recent rain havoc was estimated at Rs 211.17 crore, in which the losses suffered due to road damage were estimated at Rs 58.75 crore. Two National Highways — Koci Dhanushkody and Kollam- Theni — suffered heavily in the district. Rains also caused damage to agriculture and houses as well. The total agriculture-related loss was estimated at Rs 35.80 crore. This included damage to standing crops and crops destroyed due to the landslips.

Kerala makes contractors responsible for bad roads
Contractors will be made responsible for the damaged roads they have built in Kerala. The Kerala government has taken this step as the stateÂ’s road network collapsed in recent heavy rains. The State Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said recently that the contractors will be asked to repair on their own the roads that collapsed within a year of construction.
People demand to execute 3-road project in Tripunithura
In Kerala, residents of Tripunithura Municipality in Ernakulam district have sought the implementation of three-road development project proposed by the municipality to prevent petroleum and other bullet tankers from using the busy roads. According to the local people, the proposals to widening the Mamala-Chithrapuzha Bund Road (from Thiruvankulam to Manakkapadi via Kochi-Madurai bypass) and the Manakkapadi-Vyttila Road (via Eroor and Kaniyampuzha) must be taken up on priority basis.
Kerala to repair rain damaged roads at Rs 300 cr
In Kerala, the total estimated road damage caused due to the monsoon has been estimated at Rs 300 crore, said PWD Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju in Kochi on July 13. The state received hundred per cent rainfall this monsoon, which has resulted in the bad condition of the roads. Maintenance of the roads will take place once the rain subsides.
Rs 1,700 cr Kannur airport to be ready by 2015 end
Kerala's fourth international airport at Kannur would open in December 2015, the State's Excise and Shipping Minister K Babu, who is also in charge of the airport project, said on July 13. Seven companies have been shortlisted in the pre-qualification bid for building the airport, which is coming up in an area of around 2,000 acres and is expected to cost Rs 1,700 crore.
Eroor residents want Kaniyampuzha road to be widened
In Kerala, the Vyttila Mobility Hub is just two km away from Eroor but the residents here have to travel approximately 20 kilometres to reach the hub. According to the residents, they are unable to use the Kaniyampuzha road, the two km stretch that connects Eroor and Vyttila, as it is narrow and unsuitable for vehicular traffic. Though the residents have demanded widening of road to reduce the traffic woes, the Tripunithura Municipal authorities said the proposal is pending before the State Gove
Govt to reject bid of ABG Group
Media reports indicate that the Kerala government decided to reject the sole bid of ABG Group to develop a cement terminal at Azhikkal port in Kannur at a cost of Rs 120 crore. Port asked to revive operation in container terminal
Trade unions at Cochin Port in Kerala urged the port management to revive operations at the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal and retaining of cargo handling at Cochin port itself. A Kerala government-led body Inekl is in the process of roping in investors, developers, companies and individuals for setting up a tower on 2.45 acre of land at Angamaly.
