Kollam port needs infrastructure to handle cargo
Kollam cargo port urgently requires infrastructure like cranes for handling containers cargoes from vessels. Recently, a multi purpose 1,600 DWT container vessel, MV Karuthal , arrived at the port as part of a trial run calling at various small ports of the state. The captain of the ship Zaw Win Thein said that the port appeared very calm and looked ideal for receiving ships
Kerala govt promotes coastal shipping
The Kerala government is taking steps to boost transport of cargo through inland waterways and coastal shipping route in order to ease pressure on road infrastructure and also to reduce carbon footprint. In this regard, the state government announced a subsidy of Rs 1 for every 1 tonne of cargo moved through the coastal shipping
Kerala to spend Rs 1 tn on infra projects
In the next few years, the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) will be working on several mega projects worth Rs 100,000 crore.
Ports and the state go together
You can see Kerala’s maritime initiatives brewing: In September last year, the cabinet approved a Maritime Board for the state, PPP bids are on, and the stage is now set for the state to see the projects through and to consolidate.
