Shifting of AIE headquarters to Kochi still incomplete
The much-hyped shifting of Air India Express (AIE) headquarters to Kochi remains incomplete though the low-budget wing of the national carrier seems to have achieved significant improvement in schedule integrity since January. The AIE headquarters was officially shifted here from Mumbai on January 1 but much needs to be done to complete the redeployment of the staff and finding a space for it.

Airline industry is witnessing revival: Ajit Singh
Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ajit Singh said on March 17 that airline industry is witnessing a revival. Addressing the 11th Routes Asia Conference in Mumbai, Singh said various policy measures taken by the government have begun to yield results and hoped that the general aviation business will emerge as a key driver of regional connectivity and economic development.

Hyderabad, Delhi, Mumbai airports rated high by ACI
India's Delhi and Hyderabad airports managed by GMR Group and Mumbai airport by GVK Group have been rated high in respective categories in Airport Quality Service (ASQ) by Airports Council International (ACI) for 2012. The Indira Gandhi International airport at Delhi and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Hyderabad, both managed by GMR Infrastructure have secured second positions in respective categories.

Govt planning to revive Juhu airport: Ajit Singh
The Union Civil Aviation Ministry is planning to revive the Juhu airport in Mumbai to ease the traffic burden in the city. The move is in view of the air traffic at the Mumbai airport rising and the proposed Navi Mumbai airport getting delayed. The Union Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said that Juhu (airport) becomes very important if Mumbai has to maintain its position as the commercial and financial capital of India.

No delay from Aviation Ministry to AirAsia’s JV
There would be no delay in granting necessary approvals to Malaysian carrier AirAsia for its proposal to start an airline here with Tatas if all required information is provided to government agencies, Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said on March 17. There are some procedural issues which will be settled and there is nothing to worry. We welcome AirAsia-Tata Joint Venture (JV) and hope that it will be operational soon, he said on the sidelines of Routes Asia Conference held in Mumbai.

KFA to renew flying permit, wants to retain airport slots
According to sources, debt-ridden Kingfisher Airlines is looking to renew its airline operation permit, its CEO Sanjay Aggarwal told the civil aviation secretary and regulator director general of civil aviation (DGCA) in a meeting on March 7. Kingfisher Airlines, grounded since October last year, would like to retain its airport slots, especially in Mumbai.

Tata Communications to raise Rs 2,500 cr via asset sales
Tata Communications plans to sell properties across Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai to raise more than Rs 2,500 crore to raise capital in the wake of continuing losses, sourcs said. Tata Group's telecom arm, which reported net loss of Rs 201 crore for the third quarter ended December, has identified land parcels valued at over Rs 2,500 crore in these metros for monetisation.

Jet Airways seeks govt’s nod to buy 6 KFA’s slots
With the government withdrawing Kingfisher Airlines' international flying rights and domestic slots, the Jet Airways has approached the Aviation Ministry to acquire six of the vacant slots. The airline company has applied to the government to acquire six slots from Mumbai. Of these, it is looking at four domestic and two international routes, Jet Airways sources said in Mumbai.
