In Mangalore, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has decided to collect user fee on the 18.60 km National Highway Road from the city to BC Road from December 5 midnight. With this, travel for Mangalore commuters on BC Road is to become more costly.

Only guidelines will be formulated by the Rangarajan panel, appointed by the Union government on the premium rescheduling of road projects. The task of implementing the guidelines rests with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), say sources in the government.

Though the 37-km Surathkal-BC Road stretch was constructed by the same agency- Ircon International Limited (IRCON) - two different agencies will be appointed to collect the toll and do the maintenance of the road, stated the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
