Nod to six-laning of Vadodara-Surat stretch of NH-8
The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has given its approval for six-laning of the Vadodra-Surat section of NH-8 including construction of a new four-lane extra dosed bridge across the Narmada River and two eight-lane flyovers in Gujarat under the NHDP Phase V.
The cost is estimated to be Rs 503.16 crore including Rs 17 crore as the cost of land acquisition, resettlement and rehabilitation and other pre-construction activities.

Cost escalation ruins infra firms' hope
The rising finance cost has eaten into the profit margins of major infrastructure firms in the first half of the current fiscal year. Infrastructure companies have witnessed a sharp increase in their finance cost during April-September 2012. An analysis of the financial statements of 16 infrastructure firms shows financial cost going up because of huge debt, tight monetary policy and high risk perception.
Govt awarded only 1,010 km road project so far
Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways (RTH) Sarvey Sathyanarayana informed Lok Sabha that the government awarded 1,010 km of national highways (NH) so far in 2012-13. This is hardly 11.5 per cent of the target of 8,800 km under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) for this
