To ease traffic congestion of container-laden vehicles going to the Chennai harbour, the
Chennai Port Trust (ChPT) will operate a parking yard at Tiruvottiyur in north Chennai. First the container trucks will have to visit the yard, get all documents verified and proceed to the port. This procedure will prevent vehicles waiting at Ennore Expressway from holding up traffic.

Northern Port Access Road project revived in Chennai
To improve connectivity to the Ennore port and to boost industrial growth in the North Chennai, the Tamil Nadu government has revived the Northern Port Access (NPA) Road project to connect the Ennore port with Thatchur near Panchetti on Chennai Kolkata Highway. The State Highways Department has entrusted the work of updating the detailed project report for the NPA road project to a consultant.
