IWAI transport terminal ready at Kolkata port
A transport terminal of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) at Garden Reach Jetty-2 in Kolkatta Port Trust is ready.
Kolkata being a transportation hub on the Ganga, the new terminal would serve Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and the North-Eastern Region.
Road construction becomes risky in north-east India
Due to security concerns and threats from local terrorist groups in the north eastern region of the country, private road developers are not very keen to take up road projects. The Union Road Ministry has made ambitious plans to improve road infrastructure, including an accelerated road development programme in the region.
Govt okays Rs 86-cr subsidy to Adhunik Cements
In a move to promote industrialisation in the North Eastern region, the Union government on August 13 approved Rs 86.09 crore subsidy to Adhunik Cements in Meghalaya. The subsidy has been cleared to the company under the Central Capital Investment Subsidy Scheme (CCISS), 2007 of the North East Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy (NEIIPP), 2007, an official release said.
Govt aims to build Rs 33,688 cr road projects in 3-yrs
Under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme, the Union government has set a target to complete Rs 33,688 crore projects by June 2016 to improve infrastructure in the country's North Eastern region. The phase A of SARDP-NE including Arunachal Package covers 6,418 km at an estimated cost of Rs 33,688 crore. The Union government on May 23 approved the 4-laning of Dimapur-Kohima National Highway in Nagaland at a total cost of Rs 1,089.87 crore. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the implementation of the project of 4-laning of the Dimapur-Kohima section from 124.1 km to 172.9 km of NH-39, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said in Delhi. This project is under the special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP-NE) in North Eastern Region, he said.
