JSPL commissions Oman steel plant
Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) has commissioned a 2 million tonne per annum integrated steel plant at Sohar in Oman with a total investment of $800 million. JSPL runs the facility, the third largest unit in Middle East and in the gulf region
CIL to firm up power biz

Alstom wins BHEL contract
Alstom has won a contract worth Rs 85 million from BHEL to supply two 800 MW supercritical boilers for Darlipalli Super Thermal Power Project (STPP) in Sundergarh, Odisha.Under the scope of the contract, Alstom will design the 800 MW supercritical boilers and supply identified pressure parts along with wind boxes, pulverisers and air preheater components. The company would also assist BHEL with technical advisors during the erection and commissioning of the units.
Two more thermal power plants in Karnataka
Karnataka is planning to set up two new thermal power plants to address the increasing demand for power in the coming years. The state minister for energy DK Shivakumar said the government was trying to identify land to set up the proposed power plants.
APSEZ closer to Dhamra deal
The Adani Group is a step closer to acquiring Odisha´s Dhamra port, which secured the environmental clearance from the government.
As its management consultant, the Adani Port and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) already looks after the operations of the port, which is a 50:50 joint venture between L and T and Tata Steel. APSEZ´s Rs 5,000-crore deal is likely to be completed by early next month.
ADB approves road projects in Phailin hit area
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has approved Rs 966.75 crore for 484 new road projects to be implemented across 14 districts of Odisha hit by tropical cyclone Phailin and subsequent floods. A total road network of 1,790.37 km will be established in the 14 affected districts. The assistance has been approved by ADB under the third tranche of Pradhan Mantri Grameen Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for 2013-14.
Steel: Bullish long term!
Hindsight: It has been a challenging year for Tata Steel as our expansion in capacity has coincided with a slowdown in steel-consuming sectors like automotive and construction. However, as we have opened up new market segments like SME and further leveraged our existing customer relationships and distribution network, we have grown at 10 to 12% over last year which is much better than the market.
Govt gives nod for rail link to Astranga port
The Union government has given its ‘In Principle’ clearance for rail connectivity to port of Astranga in Odisha. This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in written reply to a question in Lok Sabha on Decembder 12.
