Odisha is to repair its State Highways at a cost of Rs 3,000 crore in the next four years. The State government has started process for tenders for road works of 381 km in the first phase at a cost of Rs 633 crore. The government has come out with ‘State Highways Development Programme (SHDP), a new scheme for the purpose. Under the plan, the government aims to double lane all the State Highways within 12th Five Year Plan with an estimated investment of Rs 3,000.00 crore.

Now decks have been cleared for establishment of a 423 mw gas-based power project in Odisha, the first of its kind in the state, at an investment of Rs 3,106 crore. JGreen Power has come forward with its proposal for the project. The company has a registered office at Balasore.
Jindal’s proposal to buy stake in Gopalpur port rejected
Odisha Commerce Minister Subrat Tarai has stated that the Odisha government on August 30 rejected a proposal by Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) to acquire 49 per cent stake in Gopalpur Ports (GPL) in the state. Citing the State's Law Department's report, he said that the Gopalpur port could not be transferred before its operation for at least three years.
Two civic bodies in Odisha to build plastic roads
Now two civic bodies in Odisha-Bhubaneswar and Cuttack are to construct roads by using the recycled plastic. By doing so, the the government plans to get rid of the twin cities of plastic waste. Such plastic incorporated roads are also said to be more durable, especially to withstand the rainy season damages.
Odisha to get 2,361 banks in 2 years
The Union Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena has stated that in Odisha, the domestic scheduled commercial banks are planning to open 2,361 brick and mortar branches during 2013-15. As per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the number of functioning branches of scheduled commercial banks in Odisha is 3,472.
Roads need immediate repairs in Brajrajnagar area
In Odisha's Brajrajnagar Municipality area commuting during monsoon is a struggle for the residents. Water puddles dot the roads. The condition prevails in the Municipality which was awarded as the best Municipality by the Chief Minister this year. Concern over delay in PMGSY road projects in Odisha
In Odisha, implementation of road projects under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) are getting delayed and the Union government has expressed concern on the same. The Union government is also worried over the quality of the construction work of the roads under PMGSY. This has been conveyed to the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh through a letter.
Centre clears Rs 1.1 lakh cr big ticket infra projects
In a big relief to investors, the Union government has cleared big-ticket investment projects worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The projects were held up for years for want of several government clearances. The clearances relate to 18 power projects with a generation capacity of 15,500 mw, four highway projects worth Rs 4,400 crore, and a Rs 1,200-crore steel plant in Odisha.
NTPC Darlipali project in Odisha is acquiring land: Govt
The Union Minister of State for Power Jyotiraditya M Scindia told the the Rajya Sabha recently that the upcoming Darlipali Project (2x800 mw) in Odisha is in the process of land acquisition by the State government. The process of environment and forest clearance of the project as well as its linked Dulanga coal mine from Ministry of Environment of Forests (MoEF) is also in progress.
Odisha choosen for ICZM phase-II project
The Union government has chosen Odisha among three states for Phase-II of Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) projects.
