Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), 881 rural road projects of 2,982 km length worth Rs 1,493 crore have been sanctioned to Odisha by the Union government. This was disclosed by the Union Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh in a letter to the Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

The State government has started process for tenders for road works of 381 km in the first phase at a cost of Rs 633 crore. The government has come out with ‘State Highways Development Programme (SHDP), a new scheme for the purpose. Under the plan, the government aims to double lane all the State Highways within 12th Five Year Plan with an estimated investment of Rs 3,000.00 crore.

Jindal’s proposal to buy stake in Gopalpur port rejected
Odisha Commerce Minister Subrat Tarai has stated that the Odisha government on August 30 rejected a proposal by Jindal Steel and Power (JSPL) to acquire 49 per cent stake in Gopalpur Ports (GPL) in the state. Citing the State's Law Department's report, he said that the Gopalpur port could not be transferred before its operation for at least three years.

Centre clears Rs 1.1 lakh cr big ticket infra projects
In a big relief to investors, the Union government has cleared big-ticket investment projects worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore. The projects were held up for years for want of several government clearances. The clearances relate to 18 power projects with a generation capacity of 15,500 mw, four highway projects worth Rs 4,400 crore, and a Rs 1,200-crore steel plant in Odisha.
