Perturbed over the slow pace of development at 119 mines allocated to Coal India, a Parliamentary panel has asked the government to 'act swiftly' and ensure that CIL starts production there. Indian steel companies are said to be preferring to import cheap steel scrap from African and West Asian countries, whose prices are falling, instead of buying domestic sponge iron.
