The peak demand of Uttar Pradesh is of the order of 12,700 MW out of which around 10,700 MW is met leaving a shortfall of around of 2,000 MW at present. Paricha plant of 500 MW capacity which went on forced outage yesterday has been restored and is generating on full load. Now another private sector plant Anpara-C of 600 MW is out because of non-procurement of imported coal by the generating company.

Gulf Cooperation Council members to face gas crunch
A recent report called, 'Gas shortage in the GCC - How to Bridge the Gap', by global consultancy firm, Booz & Company, says gas shortage in the six resource-rich Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries will become more evident 2015 as demand is on the rise and supply struggles to keep pace. Increasing power consumption, depleting oil fields, gas exploration and long-term gas export commitments have limited the local supply of gas in the region, the report says.
Gas-based power plants need 72 mscmd gas
Media reports quoted a top source from the union power ministry as saying that natural gas-based power plants in the country need 72 mscmd of gas to operate at 75 per cent plant load factor. JSW Steel announced 8% rise in output
In October-December 2012, production of crude steel at JSW Steel expanded only 8 per cent to 20.94 lakh tonne because of impediments like shortages of iron ore. In Oct-Dec 2011, the company produced 19.39 lakh tonne (l t) crude steel.
