Potholes dot Chana Pora-Ram Bagh road in Srinagar
In Srinagar, the Chana Pora-Ram Bagh motorway is getting more of potholes with each passing day as the State Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department has failed to take remedial measures. The State government had announced that a flyover would be constructed from Jehangir Chowk upto Natipora enroute Ram Bagh. But the government finally clipped Ram Bagh-Nati Pora portion of the flyover though, as per observers, it needed the expressway connectivity more than elsewhere.
Congested Bemina road in Srinagar needs widening
The congested Bemina road in Srinagar awaits widening, despite inconvenience being faced by thousands of commuters, who everyday bear traffic snarls on the motorway. According to residents, the vital link spanning over 2-km Ćā between Bemina Degree college and Bemina highway squares, has been neglected by successive regimes. This is despite the fact that the road is a key link to around 50 government offices visited by thousands everyday in the area.
Governor clears Ordinance for pipeline project
Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra signed the Ordinance which would allow state government to acquire land for the Rs 880 crore Bhatinda-Srinagar gas pipeline project. The project, which involves laying of the 750-kilometer gas pipeline from Bhatinda in Punjab to Srinagar via Jammu, is scheduled for completion in three years. Gujarat State Petronet Limited (GSPL) received contract for the project in June 2011
Widening of key highway started in Srinagar
Gearing up to fulfill his commitment of bringing an end to traffic jams at Pantha Chowk in Srinagar, a key highway stretch to south Kashmir, District Development Commissioner Srinagar Farooq Ahmed Shah on March 27 got widening work started, an official spokesman said. He said the DDC directed to take up the widening work in the Sempora stretch, which witnesses frequent traffic jams.
Officials asked to pace up work on Fateh Kadal road
Shamim Firdous, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Habba Kadal of Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir inspected the pace of work of road widening project from Fateh Kadal to Gaw Kadal area.
Tunnels to cut Jammu-Srinagar travel time by 5 hr
High speed travel from Jammu to Srinagar by road, even during harsh winter or at the height of monsoon, is possible due to building of two twin tunnels on the NH-1A.
