In India, for every 10 per cent of the population using basic services such as voice and SMS, the national GDP increases by 0.5 per cent; a similar expansion of Internet and other non-voice communication or data adds 1 per cent to GDP, according to government figures available with the country´s Department of Telecommunications (DoT).

Excise exemption for parts of wind energy generators
The Central Board of Excise and Customs issued a notification clarifying that parts such as tower, nacelle, rotor, blades and wind turbine controller of wind operated electricity generators are eligible for exemption from excise duty.
Reliance Jio inks deal with Indus Towers
Reliance Jio Infocomm (RJIL) signed a master services agreement for tower sharing with Indus Towers. Indus Towers, the largest tower company in the world, is a joint venture company of Bharti Group, Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group having 113,490 towers in 15 telecom circles across the country.
Reliance Jio, Tower Vision in mobile tower pact
Reliance Jio Infocomm has signed a tower sharing deal with Tower Vision, which will help the telecom unit of Reliance Industries roll out its much-awaited high speed data and voice services faster and at a lower cost across India. The deal is for sharing 8,400 towers of Tower Vision, the two companies said in a joint statement.
Inkel to rope in private firms for tower project
A Kerala government-led body Inekl is in the process of roping in investors, developers, companies and individuals for setting up a tower on 2.45 acre of land at Angamaly. The proposed tower is very close to Cochin International Airport and 35-km from the seaport at Vallarpdam. A dedicated 750-metre approach road is being laid to the site from NH 47. Tower providers plan to use green power
The Tower and Infrastructure Providers’ Association is plaÂnning to float a request for proposal (RFP) inviting NGOs and private green power companies to generate and supply off-grid power to telecom towers in the country. The association proÂÂÂposes the ‘RESCO off-grid disÂÂtribution model’ where renewable energy companies can set up renewable energy-based power plants near the telecom towers and sell power to the telecom company at a pre-determined cost.
