A consortium of Siemens and Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd has been awarded an order from Power Grid Corporation of India, to supply a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission system. The total size of the order won by the consortium is $520 million, of which the share of Siemens Limited is approximately Rs 1,682 crore.

Power Grid to invest Rs.1,900 crore
Power Grid Corporation´s board has approved investment of over Rs 1,900 crore for expansion and upgradation works by the middle of 2016. The board in its meeting approved Rs 908.08 crore and Rs 539.82 crore for two transmission system strengthening schemes in the northern region, Power Grid said in a statement. The expansion and upgradation of load despatch centres for Rs 56.18 crore was also approved by the board.
Board clears Rs 72 bn power projects
According to a company filing, the board of directors of PowerGrid Corp cleared an investment of Rs 3,201.44 crore for transmission system for phase-I generation projects in Jharkhand and West Bengal.The project is part of the Rs 7,209.65 crore investment proposal approved by the board.
