Kerala to develop NHs into 45-m width
Kerala government will see to that the national highways in the state be developed with 45-metre width, said the State Public Works Department Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju. The Minister said this at the two-day seminar on ‘Innovative initiatives for road development’ beginning on November 6 in Thiruvananthapuram.
Work starts on road over Vanchiyoor canal in T’puram
In Thiruvananthapuram, Work on a new road over the Vanchiyoor canal was launched on November 5. The work, launched by the Kerala Public Works Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju, will see 300 metres of the canal having slabs laid over it at a cost of Rs 7.5 crore to enable transport over it.
Kerala PWD resumes road works in Kochi
The Kerala Public Works Department (PWD) has resumed resurfacing of roads in Kochi. PWD had abandoned the road patching works before the monsoon and now again it has taken up the work as the monsoon is coming to an end. Priority has been given to restoring roads within the city limits. Potholes on roads in the suburbs would be filled within a fortnight, said the PWD engineers.
Rs 76 cr to repair damaged roads in Ernakulam district
To repair roads within three weeks in Ernakulam district in Kerala, which were damaged in the recent heavy rains, the State government has decided to provide Rs 76.15 crore, said the State Works Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju on August 19 in Kochi.
Kerala to repair rain damaged roads at Rs 300 cr
In Kerala, the total estimated road damage caused due to the monsoon has been estimated at Rs 300 crore, said PWD Minister VK Ebrahim Kunju in Kochi on July 13. The state received hundred per cent rainfall this monsoon, which has resulted in the bad condition of the roads. Maintenance of the roads will take place once the rain subsides.
NHAI’s highway norms not practical, says Kerala
The National Highway Authority of India prescribed norms were the main constraint for highway development, said VK Ebrahim Kunju, Kerala Minister for Public Works. He told this in the State Assembly that the authority had insisted on acquiring equal space on either sides of a stretch to suit road geometrics.
