A government committee headed by BK Chaturvedi, Member, Planning Commission, has reportedly decided to suggest government to amend the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963. The committee feels that the act must be amended in order to give major ports a free hand in determining tariffs. The panel feels that major ports should be given the freedom to set rates based on market forces with proper checks and balances.
