Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL), a subsidiary of The Tata Power Company Ltd, has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Tata Power Mumbai Distribution to develop an 80 MW firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) project.

The project will integrate solar, wind, and battery storage systems to ensure reliable energy dispatch during peak demand hours, enhancing grid stability and supporting Mumbai’s growing electricity needs.

Expected to be commissioned within 24 months, the FDRE project will generate approximately 315 million units (MUs) of electricity annually, reducing over 0.25 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. A key feature is its commitment to a four-hour peak power supply, with at least 90 per cent availability during high-demand periods.

The initiative will help Tata Power Mumbai Distribution meet its renewable purchase obligation (RPO), as mandated by the state regulatory commission. Once operational, the clean energy will be integrated into the city’s distribution network, supplying low-emission electricity to nearly 800,000 residential, commercial, and industrial consumers.

This collaboration reinforces TPREL’s leadership in India’s renewable energy sector. With a total renewable utility capacity of 11.3 GW—including 5.7 GW under implementation and 5.6 GW operational—TPREL continues to expand its footprint through integrated green energy solutions. Its solar engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) portfolio now exceeds 15.7 GWp in ground-mount utility-scale projects and over 3 GW in rooftop and distributed systems.
