Lack of clarity on the implementation of incentives provided by the Tamil Nadu government affected the installation of rooftop solar power systems in households and industrial and commercial buildings.
While the solar policy mandates industries and commercial entities to procure 6 percent of their power from solar sources, there has been no official communication along with guidelines on how to go about this.
The state government is said to be working on guidelines on this and it is a long drawn process to introduce specific rules based on the policy.
Also, there is no clarity on how the government would implement its promised generation-based incentive of Rs 2 per kilowatt hour generated by a household. It is not known how the money will reach people. There is no clarity on how electricity generated will be measured either.
Even the electricity board does not have any idea on net meters, and say they are still awaiting instruction, reports indicate. The government order has come but there has to be technical notes to it, some sources said.
The state government is yet to clarify how its proposed subsidy of Rs 20,000 would work with the central subsidy.
Today, there is a central government subsidy of 30 percent on the price of the system, and the state government promises a further capital subsidy.
