Tamil Nadu government is framing a solar power policy that aims to add over 3,000 mw of solar power generation capaÂcity in the state. Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, Tamil Nadu Energy Development AgeÂncy informed that the state government would soon finalise the policy and announce subÂsidy to support roof top solar energy installations. The goverÂnment has also decided to proÂvide subsidy for roof top solar energy equipment. This will be in addition to the 30 per cent subsidy provided by the Union Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, he said.
The agency, which is the nodal body for promoting reneÂwable energy and chaÂnnelling government support for proÂjects, is also pushing the conÂcept of net metering. HouseÂhold level power geneÂration facilities can feed surplus or unutilised power into the grid. They will be charged only for the net quaÂntity of electricity they consume. The concept is being tried at the agency’s office as a pilot proÂject and two more test projects will soon go on stream, he said.
