Traders in Prakasham district of Andhra Pradesh have urged the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the Centre should reconsider to build a major port in the state coast at Ramaiahpatnam instead of the already announced Dugarajapatnam in Nellore district in the same state.

Actually, the original plan of having the port was at Ramaiahpatnam in Prakasam district, as the expert opinion is in favour of it, many trade associations in Guntur and Prakasam districts have said in the memorandum submitted to Manmohan Singh recently.

The Guntur Chilli Merchants’ Association, the AP Spinning Mills Association, the Indian Tobacco Association, the AP Prawn Farmers’ Welfare Association and several others have
expressed their favour for Ramaiahpatnam.
