The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) has said that Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra together have over 50 per cent share in the road projects being undertaken in the country.
In a reprot, the Assocham said that the roads sector in India has the highest number of projects under construction, under bidding and second highest share in the under operation stage in the public-private partnership (PPP) model as of August 2012.
With 15 road projects worth over Rs 55,000 crore under construction in the PPP model, Uttar Pradesh accounts for highest share of over 33 per cent. Gujarat has 22 road projects worth over Rs 13,675 crore under construction in the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Tamil Nadu ranks third after Gujarat with 21 road projects worth over Rs 12,700 crore under construction accounting for about 7.7 per cent followed by Maharashtra (7.3 per cent share) and Andhra Pradesh (5.8 per cent share).
