An American Senator Jim Risch on September 12 asked India to stop import of oil from Iran, as the Obama Administration defended its decision to grant a sanctions waiver to New Delhi. ‘The Indians’ purchase of oil from Iran, in my judgment, endangers the entire world community and is a destabilising factor for the Middle East,’ Jim Risch said.
Risch is a member of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee. He said this during confirmation hearing for Nisha Desai Biswal, nominated as Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia at the US Agency for International Development (USAID).
Risch asked Biswal to convey his concerns about import of oil from Iran to India. ‘Tell them at least some members of this body are deeply disappointed in what they’re doing,’ he told Biswal.
