Uttarakhand Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to carry out repair and maintenance of roads in the state. The prolonged monsoon and heavy rains caused extensive damage to the roads and now as the monsoon had come to an end, the maintenance and repair of roads should be taken on priority, the Chief Minister said.

Presiding over a meeting of district level officers at Nahan Circuit House in Sirmaur district on September 18 morning. He said that connecting every village with motorable road is also on priority of his government and PWD authorities should formulate schemes to connect left out villages with road facility.

The State government has given its approval to purchase 1,000 new buses and 500 buses would be added to the fleet of HRTC in the first stage to facilitate the commuters in the state. The Chief Minister directed the Superintending Engineer, PWD to conduct inspection of Kumarhatti-Nahan road and complete the repair and maintenance work by March, 2014. He also directed for inspection of Sarahan-Nahan road so that it could be properly maintained.
