For four-laning of NH31D road project, over 150 families near Jalpaiguri town have come forward voluntarily to give their plots to the National Highways Authority of India. The road project has not taken off because of land acquisition protests. It is a key road project in north Bengal.

A delegation representing 153 families of Raninagar, on the outskirts of Jalpaiguri town just off the highway, on November 18 submitted a memorandum at the NHAI project office in Siliguri, requesting that their land be acquired immediately as they want the highway project to take off.
