The Visakhapatnam Port in Andhra Pradesh is to take up expansion and development works worth Rs 641 crore. The works include dredging and development of West Quay-North berth. The port is to take up as many as eight berths for capacity augmentation and modernisation through Public Private Partnership (PPP) operators.

Visakhapatnam Port has awarded the project to dredge the outer harbour approach channel, outer turning circle; ore berth area, General Cargo Berth approaches, and construction of mooring dolphin at ore berth at an estimated cost of INR 139.88 crore to International Seaport Dredging Limited.

For navigation of ships of draft up to 14 metre, the port has awarded the work for deepening of channel and turning circle of Inner Harbour (phase-III) at an estimated cost of Rs 280.04 crore to Dharthi Dredging Infrastructure Limited. The port is also mobilising Rd 221.14 crore from its internal resources for developing West Quay-North berth for handling dry bulk cargo in inner harbour.

The agreement is awarded to DBM Geotechnics & Construction. Vedanta, which formed Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited, was the first among the PPP projects to expand mechanized coal handling facility in the outer harbour with an investment of INR 444.1 crore in April.
