In Kolkata, passengers flying in and out of the city airport would soon be able to avail Volvo bus service round the clock. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee (AAC) on July 30.
In addition to a luxury ride in sprawling Volvo buses, the fliers would also be in line to get a proper lowdown on taxi fares from a touch screen kiosk to be installed by the Bidhannagar police in the airport premises.
The State Transport Department would soon rope in an agency to operate the Volvo buses between 10 pm and 6 am. The buses would ply from the airport to various destinations in the city, Sougata Roy, who is the chairman of the AAC, said. We currently have a dedicated bus service by day and it would soon be extended to a 24-hour service. The night operations would be launched very soon, Roy said.
