Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) produced 3.81 million tonne (mn t) of hot metal and 3.4 mn t of iron & steel in 2012-13.
It is learnt that the company achieved a cumulative sales of Rs 13,650 crore in 2012-13 and its sales was the highest in the month of March 2013 at Rs 2,136 crore. Exports at Rs 601 crore registered a growth of 45 per cent and rural sales improved 15 per cent.
Despite power restrictions imposed by the state grid during the last eight months, the company could maintain the production level because of impressive generation at its captive power plant.
During 2012-13, the firm produced 211 mw power through captive plant and this is said to be the highest during the last five years.
The steel plant also registered improved performance in various techno-economic parametres with 8 per cent growth in labour productivity; 6 per cent in specific water consumption; 4 per cent in sinter productivity; and 12 per cent in average converter life.
The firm invested 52 per cent more capital on research and development during the period. The capex expenditure was around Rs 1,300 crore. VSP paid Rs 1,652 crore during 2012-13 to the centre towards redemption of preferential equity and payment of dividend.
