Vijayapura district, with its vast open and elevated areas, has gradually begun large-scale wind energy projects to tap into the readily available natural resource to meet its power requirements. Wind turbines producing almost 700 MW of power would be set up in the district over the next months, especially since private firms have shown interest in generating wind power here. Hyderabad-based Greenko has already started generating some 180 MW of power.
