In Kerala, construction of Kannur International Airport will begin within two weeks as the tender for the construction was awarded to Larsen & Toubro on November 7. The airport is the second public/private partnership airport to be developed and will be 49 per cent funded by private individuals and organisations.
The Kannur airport is being built on a 2,000-acre site between Mattanur and Kannur cities. The airport is being pitched as the new ‘gateway’ airport to the district, aiming to promote tourism to the district.
It is also set to become the air cargo hub for the Malabar region and to provide a ‘host of commercial, trade promotion and industrial activities on its lands.
