To meet the growing demands of air travel for the next 20 years, Cochin International Airport (CIAL) will soon take up the construction of a new terminal. The proposed 15 lakh sq.ft terminal is estimated to cost Rs 250-crore.
work on the airport terminal is expected to start from next January. CIAL will stick to individual tendering rather than go in for lump-sum contract method as that would be more costly, said VJ Kurien, Managing Director.
As part of its diversification plans, the airport company has also plans to develop airports in other parts of the country. It the first PPP project in the civil aviation sector. Among the recently tendered airport projects, CIAL will bid for the Rs 500-crore Lucknow project while clarification is needed on the Chennai project.
