The Public Works Department (PWD) of Punjab has appointed Consulting Engineering Services (CES), New Delhi to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) of proposed four-laning of 82 km Ropar-Nawanshahr-Phagwara, which will submit its report in two months to the department.

The Department has also prepared reports about acquisition of land needed for stretching the existing road but the officials remained tight-lipped about revealing the required land as it can cause public outrage.

Officials concerned said that CES would measure several elements, including need of number of flyovers, elevated roads, service lanes and others new things that would be reported in DPR.

However, they said that presently, the department had proposed to develop three elevated roads starting from Garhi Bypass Road to Langroya village, Langroya to Nawanshahr town and from Nawanshahr town to Banga territorial limit. A Railway under Bridge (RUB) has also been projected at railway lines adjoining Nawanshahr co-operative Sugar Mill, officials said.

They said that a budget of Rs 1,200 crore would be needed for the completion of the project and the construction work would start next year.
