In Madurai, after the successful implementation of the one-way system in Tallakulam area to ease traffic congestion on the Alagarkovil Road, the city police are planning to convert the congested Masi and Veli streets around Meenakshi Amman Temple into one-way as well.

Sanjay Mathur, Commissioner of Police, Madurai city said that implementation of one-way system on the four Masi streets is being considered. Police officers are in the process of checking the viability of the system. Parking on both sides of the road and two-way traffic systems is a cause of concern since it causes inconvenience the road users.

Police have planned to implement one-way traffic system on the four Veli streets even before Masi streets, he added. The recently implemented one-way system on Alagarkovil Road was received well by the public The one-way system, to be introduced on the Masi Street is aimed at easing traffic congestion, he said.

The police said that implementation of the one-way system on all the Masi streets would reduce traffic congestion. At present the traffic movement in the Masi streets frequently chocked with the congestions. Entry of trucks into small lanes, uncontrolled parking on the both sides of the streets and tricycles create bottlenecks in traffic movement.
