Punjab government on May 21 gave its nod for the repair of link roads covering 11,000 km at a cost of Rs 1,700 crore across the state to be completed by June, 2014. The State Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal gave his nod for the road repairs while reviewing the status of national highways, district roads, link roads, ROBs/RUBs, government buildings and several other infrastructure projects.

Secretary the PWD (B&R) PS Aujla apprised the Chief Minister that the funds for the repair of link roads have been tied up and tenders would be invited soon so as to complete this gigantic task within a time frame. The repair work of link roads would be executed by the Mandi Board and PWD (B&R) department.

The Chief Minister also approved a massive project of Rs 315 crore for the maintenance and repair of state highways, major district roads and other district roads besides the maintenance of PMGYS roads in the state during the current fiscal.

Referring to the status of national highways projects, Aujla said that 230 km of 4/6 laning had been completed by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) while the work on 400 km was in progress at a cost of Rs 3,080 crore and 101 km new national highways were proposed with an investment of Rs 700 crore in the near future.
