There is a delay in the upgradation of the land customs station at Petrapole, West Bengal, which accounts for more than half of the bilateral trade between India and Bangladesh, owing to impediments in land acquisition.
This information was given by Amit Kumar Roy, commissioner of customs (preventive) at a Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry event.
Therefore, the proposed integrated customs port at Petrapole in North 24 Parganas, aimed at boosting trade with Bangladesh, is likely to miss its deadline for completion in October.
The check post will offer customs and other clearances required to export goods and will reduce the time taken for the movement of cross-border consignments.
The authority scheduled to complete the integrated customs port project in October. But because of several issues relating to land, the deadline may be missed, Roy said.
He blamed the lack of co-operation from the district administration for delay in solving the land acquisition issue.
