Plea to Kerala govt to construct new roads to ease traffic

In Kochi, local civic bodies have demanded the Kerala government to complete construction of Tripunithura bypass road to decongest Kochi city roads. The local city bodies want the State government to initiate action and take up new road projects that will ease the traffic congestion on the city roads while also connecting the southern and eastern regions of Kochi.

Tripunithura bypass road is expected to unclog the busy Vyttila-Pettah-Tripunithura road. Once it starts functioning, the Airport-Seaport Road can be extended southward and linked to it.

For taking up construction of new road network even the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) is keen, but it insists that the State government provides sanction and funds for land acquisition and construction.

This will open up large tracts of land for development. Government can consider providing higher floor area ratio here, says GCDA Chairman N Venugopal.
