Grundfos reduces the impact on the environment while manufacturing its products. It also actively develops, manufactures and sells solutions that, in turn, help its customers reduce impact on the environment.
Did you know that 26 million groundwater pumps are used for irrigation in India? Although there is a mix of electric, diesel and solar pumps (a current upsurge), the most popular pump is diesel.
Not only are diesel pumps environmentally unfriendly, they are also costly. In fact, $6 billion a year is spent on energy subsidies. And over 783 million people in India do not have access to safe drinking water.
These are just some of the dire water-related problems India faces. What the country needs is a sustainable, cost-effective, and intelligent pump solution. And that´s where the leader in pump manufacturing, Grundfos, comes into the picture. The CW team had the privilege to tour Grundfos´s pump facilities in Chennai, Denmark and Budapest, and the progressive technology used in the various processes reaffirms the company´s position in the market. Founded in 1945 by Poul Due Jensen, Grundfos, headquartered in its birthplace- Bjerringbro, Denmark-operates on six values: sustainability, trustworthiness, people focus, independence, partnership and relentless ambition. And with the rising costs of pumps associated with irrigation and safe drinking water, its technological solutions truly stand tall. Not only does the company reduce the impact on the environment while manu¡facturing its products, it also actively develops, manufactures and sells solutions that, in turn, help its customers reduce impact on the environment. India is undeniably in need of such sustainable pump systems. With around 13 per cent of the country´s GDP coming from agriculture, farmers are strapped for cash and environment-friendly solutions. In such a scenario, Grundfos´s sustainable, easy and effective solutions are a boon, incorporating the highest level of technology and environment-friendly features. India is currently its second largest market in the world and the company´s resolve to invest more in the country, especially in rural areas, is stronger than ever. ´When we look at the Indian market, we don´t want to settle for supplying pumps,´ says Keld Fensten Madsen, Strategy & Intelligence Director, Grundfos, adding that the company wants to be present locally with sales, service and production. ´We want to be the solid partner for public authorities, organisations and private companies, addressing the water challenge and offering sustainable solutions.´
An example of Grundfos´s commitment to the Indian market is seen in Minjur, a town in the Thiruvallur district of Tamil Nadu. Here, the company´s DME dosing pumps, with customised skids, will contribute to a mammoth seawater desalination plant that will draw over 230 million litres of seawater each day to produce 100 million litres of potable water.
This is just one of the many examples where Grundfos is making major and significant strides in the Indian market. In addition to actual pump manufacturing, Grundfos is also positioning itself as a thought leader in the market. On October 16, Grundfos flagged off its state-of-the-art ´Demand More´ mobile showroom in its India headquarters in Chennai that comprises end-to-end product solutions for commercial and domestic buildings in a campaign aimed to create new benchmarks in product efficiency and sustainability.
Indeed, intrinsic to the birth of a new India is the availability of safe drinking water in a cost-effective and environmentally sustainable manner to our billions. Pump market leaders like Grundfos provide the perfect mix of cutting-edge technology, sustainable solutions and a people-focused organisation that the country can trust.
