Shekhar Dutt is the Director General at Solar Power Developers Association (SPDA), a national association representing India´s upcoming solar power generators and developers, since March 2015. A veteran with five decades of administrative as well as ministerial experience, his current role entails promoting the organisational vision of increasing focus on solar energy generation and advocating sustainable development. His ambit of work includes drafting industrial policies and proposals, sharing expertise on various governmental and corporate initiatives, leading delegations to various ministries and departments of the Centre as well as concerned state governments, amongst other things.
Dutt is a member of the Executive Council (EC) of the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), Advisory Board of Centre for Joint Warfare, Ministry of Defence, Gujarat Technical University, Ahmedabad for e-Raksha and the South Asia Foundation.
He is on the governing board of the University of Engineering and Management (UEM), Kolkata and University of Pennsylvania, USA. He is also the Chairman of Angika Development Society for Education.
Prior to joining SPDA, Dutt was the Governor of Chhattisgarh for 4.5 years, in addition to being the Chancellor of eleven state Universities and visitor to six private universities. Earlier, he also served as the Deputy National Security Advisor and as the Defence Secretary, Government of India.
Dutt is a post graduate diploma holder from the University of Swansea, United Kingdom, in Development Policy and Planning. He authored two books in 2014, namely ´Reflections on Contemporary India´ and ´India´s Defence and National Security´.
