The Transport Ministry is analysing the most appropriate ways to implement a policy called FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electrical Vehicles. The Hindu reports that the introduction of hybrid and electrical vehicles in India will have positive spin-offs both for the economy as well as the environment. Anant Geete, Heavy Industries Minister, said that the utilisation of electrical vehicles will save an amount of Rs.60,000 crore due to fuel savings. An amount of Rs.14,000 crore is earmarked for the FAME project.
