The steam turbine renovation and modernisation (R&M) order for the Ukai Thermal Power Station (TPS) in Gujarat was awarded to Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL).

The Gujarat State Electricity Corporation (GJSEC) has placed an order with BHEL for the R&M of the 200 MW Unit-3 and 210 MW Unit-5, with a value of approximately Rs 3000 million. The R&M work being carried out by BHEL will not only extend the life and reliability of Units-3 and 5 at Ukai TPS, but it will also improve the efficiency levels of these turbines addressing the issues of technical obsolescence, thereby making them more environmentally friendly. This is significant because BHEL is also the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of these turbine sets, which have been successfully operating for approximately forty years before being taken up for R&M.

BHEL’s manufacturing facilities in Haridwar, Trichy, Bengaluru, and Bhopal will supply the project’s equipment, and the Power Sector – Western Region in Nagpur will carry out the project’s on-site execution. Up to this point, BHEL has successfully completed R&M projects with a thermal capacity of more than 35,000 MW. All of the major state and central utilities, including NTPC, DVC, NLC, MAHAGENCO, RRVUNL, UPRVUNL, TANGEDCO, TSGENCO, and APGENCO, are among the company’s clients.
