Japan’s Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Hiromasa Nakano, visited the Surat High-Speed Rail (HSR) construction site on Thursday, accompanied by India’s Minister of Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw.
The two ministers reviewed key components of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR corridor, including the track slab laying car and the track slab adjustment facility.
Both expressed satisfaction with the quality standards being maintained and commended the rapid pace of construction, according to a statement from the Ministry of Railways.
Later, in a post on X, Vaishnaw wrote: “Visited the Surat HSR site with H.E. @Hiro_NAKANO_ today. Witnessed track slab laying & adjustment facility. The quality standards and rapid pace of work reflect the strong Bharat–Japan partnership.”
The first section of the corridor—connecting Surat and Bilimora in Gujarat—is expected to open in 2027. Once fully operational by 2029, the HSR line will enable passengers to travel between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in just two hours and seven minutes.
